A Glimpse Of SCMHRD Student Induction Program

MBA preparation is a roller coaster ride with loads of ups and downs. After going through the arduous journey of CAT, SNAP and various other exams and battling it out in the GDPI stage to land up in SCMHRD, one of the best premier B-schools of India, is like a dream come true. However, with all this excitement comes a lot of apprehensions-new place, new people and a new life. SCMHRD laid out an induction program to assuage all these tensions.

The induction program of SCMHRD officially began on 7th June with the President of Symbiosis society Prof. S.B. Mujumdar, Director of SCMHRD Dr Pratima Sheorey and faculty of SCMHRD welcoming the 2017-19 MBA batch to their family. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Deepak Goel, Director @iMET. Their addresses motivated us to become leaders and entrepreneurs of tomorrow and to be the flagbearers of our college. We met with the faculty of all specialisations in a formal ceremony on the next day. We were informed about the detailed academic course of first semester and amenities provided by the college.

We waited with bated breath for the weekend to come. We had the outbound learning program in Surya Sibhir, Pune. All the students enjoyed the morning chill on the two -hour long bus ride. We found ourselves amidst the serene beauty of the hills, the gushing waterfall within the premise and the loud squeaks of exotic birds. We sat on the lap of nature with cold breeze brushing our faces. It was hard not to fall in love with the place. OUTFIT organised our two -day event with various outbound exercises, trekking, team activities and ‘chill-out’ session.

The batch was divided into ‘colourful’ teams for different tasks. Most of us didn’t know each other well and some of us considered it to be a bliss to see familiar faces. However, the activities were such that we talked for miles during the trek, helped a strange hand on the downhill, believed in each other blindly (the sheep-shepherd game) and enjoyed the chaos within it. The trek, like an MBA in SCMHRD, was an uphill journey with testing times. But, there was light at the end of the tunnel when we stood at the top of the hill and soaked ourselves in the beauty of nature. To top it all was the enthralling spirit of the night with hundreds of us clamouring and cheering for one another in the chill out session where we danced, sang and enjoyed to the fullest together.

The outbound activity was hosted by retired army men, mountaineers and physiotherapists. Everything was planned well and executed with perfection, needless to say, these are the prime focus areas of any responsible corporate manager too. The second day gave us the opportunity to imbibe these qualities with rigorous group tasks, exhausting challenges and creative activities. The outbound learning was not just an ice breaker but a space to explore one’s potentials and test one’s inhibitions. Activities in the outbound programme were designed to improve leadership, communication skills, planning, delegation, teamwork and motivation. This will help us in strengthening our skills and letting our creatives juices flowing in days to come. This is just the beginning of a phenomenal two- year ride for the 2017-19 batch of SCMHRD.

    Art Of Living Session

'The core of mans' spirit comes from new experiences.'
This quote by Christopher Mc Candles describes completely the feeling that the batch 2017 – 2019 , MBA, SCMHRD experienced. In the wilderness of Alandi, Pune, in a place called 'Triveni Ashram' where the art of living session was conducted.

Honestly speaking, amongst the hectic schedule of a B school, such an initiative can be a breeze of fresh air. But still, as we the millennial are, were again skeptical about the whole program. The seed of the entire program was during the induction. The word sounded like an initiative for the spiritually concerned Samaritans. But, hey, then again, it had to be experienced. Because who wouldn't be inquisitive to know what the art of our life actually is.

The art of living program began with the rock music in the buses as we headed towards the spiritual arena. We entered our 5 sharing rooms in the ashram and were asked to come for the first session of AOL after an hour. Amidst the soothing nature and relax minds ,we were the lazy bugs. However we had to drag ourselves to this giant hall which had the biggest ceiling fan in the world. The session began with the declaration of “I belong to you” to countless people. Bonding and ice-breaking with multiple groups and partners and the sleepy yogasans continued. All we wanted was to enjoy the breezes out in open. It was a much needed breather away from the hustle bustle of the institute.

TaDDDAAa! Dinner time-enters “Satvik bhojan” which was received by us-the poor souls after the wait in the long queue. Wild spice rich simple diet. The super healthy herbal tea-a delight for coffee lovers was an eye-opener for us. Oh God we missed our “super tasty” mess food like anything. And the dish washing post meals! It made us realize that what all privileges we have in life that go unnoticed. Tired and tireless we slept deep. It was a recharge for next two days and especially the early mornings.

Fighting sleep back, commencing the day with yoga, the sixth position of Surya Namaskar(where you lie on floor completely) and the Shavaasan( simply lying on the floor)became our favorites. Motivational sessions, games, activities, songs and dances made the three-day journey enjoyable and stress-free. Team building, Sewa work and countless selfies made AOL a remarkable memory. Bonfire, breezy raindrops and antakshari added the flavor of belongingness, happiness and relaxation. Nature, weather and sessions bought us close to ourselves. They served as a tonic for mental peace. The rhythm of happiness was being reflected on the smiles of our faces. Like nomads we were sunken in spirituality, self-introspection and motivation.

All-in-all it was a wonderful experience as a part of the induction program of SCMHRD. AOL was where we bonded with others and ourselves. Amongst nature and spirituality, we were lost to find oneself!!
